Ah! The master of rethorical questions disquised as answers. You seem to ask questions to which the only answers are the ones you wish us to agree with. With such questions and bold, unfounded assertions which ignore the Book of Mormon, you try to convince. Lets answer some of your rhetorical questions pretending that they are actual questions meant to be considered. We will look at your paragraph regardeing becoming gods. We will especially look at the Book of Mormon to answer your argument. "You believe you’ll all be gods one day!", it is aserted. Your answer is "We believe in the biblical promise of being heirs with God and joint-heirs with Christ". We all agree with this (it is in the Bible). It just fails to show the proposition that we become gods. One may inherit a man's possetions without becoming anything like the benefactor. SAYS YOU: "Here is a question for you: where do you see yourself in 5 billion years? How about 5 trillion?" ME: First, trying to imagine the eternity God has prepared for us is futile. Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. The fact that you can percieve in your heart and mind that you will be a god goes far to prove that this is not the nature of the reward. If we were to turn to Alma 40:8, we would find that 5 billion is the same as 5 trillion and 50 gazillion. Read closely: .....all is as one day with God, and time only is measured unto men. I suppose the answer you are looking for is given unlimited time we must eventually be gods. A common misquoted verse twisted by LDSaints is: John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? But we do not see Him saying that in 5 trillion years you will be gods. Indeed, he says they ARE gods. Yes, those evil, murderous religious leaders WERE gods! Obviously this verse means something else. SAYS YOU: "What is our Ultimate Purpose and destination?" ME: Again, you think we will all come to see that we must become gods! The Book of Mormon tells us our purpose. Jacob 2:21 ....And all flesh is of the dust; and for the selfsame end hath he created them, that they should keep his commandments and glorify him forever. The Book of Mormon also tells us our destiny. 1 Nephi 15 30. And I said unto them that our father also saw that the justice of God did also divide the wicked from the righteous; and the brightness thereof was like unto the brightness of a flaming fire, which ascendeth up unto God forever and ever, and hath no end. 35 And there is a place prepared, yea, even that awful hell of which I have spoken, and the devil is the preparator of it; wherefore the final state of the souls of men is to dwell in the kingdom of God, or to be cast out because of that justice of which I have spoken. SAYS YOU: "Are we to be forever singing hymns to God among the clouds?" ME: You mock. That seems to be an activity that is commonly seen in the Book of Mormon and longed for. 1 Nephi 1:8 And being thus overcome with the Spirit, he was carried away in a vision, even that he saw the heavens open, and he thought he saw God sitting upon his throne, surrounded with numberless concourses of angels in the attitude of singing and praising their God. Mosiah 2:28 I say unto you that I have caused that ye should assemble yourselves together that I might rid my garments of your blood, at this period of time when I am about to go down to my grave, that I might go down in peace, and my immortal spirit may join the choirs above in singing the praises of a just God. In fact, the desire to "forever singing hymns to God" is a very feature and indicator of conversion and being born of God. Alma 36:22 Yea, methought I saw, even as our father Lehi saw, God sitting upon his throne, surrounded with numberless concourses of angels, in the attitude of singing and praising their God; yea, and my soul did long to be there. Look closely at the connection of such hymn singing and happiness. Mormon 7:7 And he hath brought to pass the redemption of the world, whereby he that is found guiltless before him at the judgment day hath it given unto him to dwell in the presence of God in his kingdom, to sing ceaseless praises with the choirs above, unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Ghost, which are one God, in a state of happiness which hath no end. SAYS YOU: "what on Earth (I guess actually “what in Heaven”) is the purpose of this life? If God just wanted a better sound system, mortality is entirely unnecessary." ME: Yuk, yuk. So amusing. Think of this life as a probation, as the Book of Mormon teaches, that ends in death (no extended probation into the spirit prison). This probation is like an audition for those who want to "join the choir". You either join the choir or you shrink therefrom. You are either a singing sheep or a cast out goat. You are either singing on the right hand or you are weeping on the left. You are either melodious wheat or wailing chaff. You will be either raising your voice with the five wise virgins or gnashing your teeth with the five foolish. SAYS YOU: "God is an omnipotent, omniscient being. If He was merely looking to pad out the population of Heaven, then God is absolutely capable of creating perfect beings to fill out heavenly neighborhoods." ME: But He chose the plan that he did. I think I have to agree with Him that His plan is better than the one you suggest. SAYS YOU: "why? Why do we go through mortality, what is our ultimate purpose and reason for existing? Which is worse: not having an answer or believing we are the literal children of God with the potential to become like Him?" ME: Either your answer or there is no other possible answer SAYS YOU: "we are the literal children of God" ME: Cannot be found in the scriptures. We BECOME the children of God. Mosiah 5:7 And now, because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters; for behold, this day he hath spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore, ye are born of him and have become his sons and his daughters. Mosiah 18:22 And thus he commanded them to preach. And thus they became the children of God. Abinadi asks, "Mosiah 15:10 ....Behold, I say unto you, that when his soul has been made an offering for sin he shall see his seed. And now what say ye? And who shall be his seed? Clearly, your answer would be "everybody". Please review God's answer through Abinadi. Spoiler: Mosiah 15:10 And who shall be his seed? 11. Behold I say unto you, that whosoever has heard the words of the prophets, yea, all the holy prophets who have prophesied concerning the coming of the Lord--I say unto you, that all those who have hearkened unto their words, and believed that the Lord would redeem his people, and have looked forward to that day for a remission of their sins, I say unto you, that these are his seed, or they are the heirs of the kingdom of God. 12. For these are they whose sins he has borne; these are they for whom he has died, to redeem them from their transgressions. And now, are they not his seed? You claim to be Jesus' brother? Not so fast! Jesus would disagree as in Matthew 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. SAYS YOU: "Anything less than following in our Heavenly Father’s footsteps represents eternal stagnation and damnation" ME: You pulled that one out of your vain imagination! Damnation is clearly defined, as all terms used, in the Book of Mormon itself. Mosiah 16:11 If they be good, to the resurrection of endless life and happiness; and if they be evil, to the resurrection of endless damnation, being delivered up to the devil, who hath subjected them, which is damnation-- Damnation is simply being turned over to be subjected to the devil. For sure, if Websters 1828 dictionary is to be used (composed the time of the Book of Mormon), stagnate could mean "To cease to move". And this is applicable. One is either in the Kingdom of God "to go no more out" or delivered forever more to the devil. Alma 7:25 And may the Lord bless you, and keep your garments spotless, that ye may at last be brought to sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the holy prophets who have been ever since the world began, having your garments spotless even as their garments are spotless, in the kingdom of heaven to go no more out. Alma 34:36 And this I know, because the Lord hath said he dwelleth not in unholy temples, but in the hearts of the righteous doth he dwell; yea, and he has also said that the righteous shall sit down in his kingdom, to go no more out; but their garments should be made white through the blood of the Lamb. Helaman 3:30 and 3 Nephi 28:40 are nice, too. So yes, we will cease to move for "the righteous shall sit down in his kingdom". SAYS YOU: "The show The Good Place..." ME: I think I will sit that one out, thank you. I could go on. but here are some tidbits: SAYS YOU: "None of them even have the structure of the Church Jesus established. " ME: The original church was lead by 12 apostles. Three of them were "pillars". Peter, one of the pillars, was one of the twelve apostles. You worry about structure? You have 15 apostles! You crack me up with your structure! SAYS YOU: "one clinging to texts and rejecting the prophets" ME: Actually, it suprises me that you would use the word "cling". Lehi also used that word regrading texts!!!! 1 Nephi 8:24 And it came to pass that I beheld others pressing forward, and they came forth and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron; and they did press forward through the mist of darkness, clinging to the rod of iron, even until they did come forth and partake of the fruit of the tree. And so we ARE to "cling" to texts and accept or reject "prophets" according to the word found in the Bible and Book of Mormon. 2 Nephi 3:12 Wherefore, the fruit of thy loins shall write; and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together, unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to the knowledge of their fathers in the latter days, and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord. 2 Nephi 18:20 To the law and to the testimony; and if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. SAYS YOU: "What does it even matter to you anyway? How are you harmed or how do you lose if a group of people you have no obligation to interact with religiously decide to also call themselves Christian?" ME: 2 Nephi 28:19 For the kingdom of the devil must shake, and they which belong to it must needs be stirred up unto repentance, or the devil will grasp them with his everlasting chains, and they be stirred up to anger, and perish;
