One Way Only

So there are no clear scriptures that tell us that we can atone for our own sins somehow by suffering for our own sins.

On the other hand, the scriptures are absolutely clear that only the the blood of Christ is the means to be saved. You either take advantage, by utilizing free agency here in this mortal life, of the atonement by faith and repentance, or you are not saved in eternity.

Helaman 5:9 O remember, remember, my sons, the words which king Benjamin spake unto his people; yea, remember that there is no other way nor means whereby man can be saved, only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who shall come; yea, remember that he cometh to redeem the world.

Mosiah 3:17 And moreover, I say unto you, that there shall be no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent.

Man has always tried to create and promote other ways and conditions other than through the atonement to get to heaven. Some have tried to build a tall tower to get to heaven. We know what happened to them. Others have promoted the idea that we can suffer for our own sins in some life hereafter. It’s all the same.

Mosiah 4:5. For behold, if the knowledge of the goodness of God at this time has awakened you to a sense of your nothingness, and your worthless and fallen state--
6. I say unto you, if ye have come to a knowledge of the goodness of God, and his matchless power, and his wisdom, and his patience, and his long-suffering towards the children of men; and also, the atonement which has been prepared from the foundation of the world, that thereby salvation might come to him that should put his trust in the Lord, and should be diligent in keeping his commandments, and continue in the faith even unto the end of his life, I mean the life of the mortal body--
7. I say, that this is the man who receiveth salvation, through the atonement which was prepared from the foundation of the world for all mankind, which ever were since the fall of Adam, or who are, or who ever shall be, even unto the end of the world.
8. And this is the means whereby salvation cometh. And there is none other salvation save this which hath been spoken of; neither are there any conditions whereby man can be saved except the conditions which I have told you.

Now, one can come up with all kinds of scenarios. But the scriptures are clear that there is only one way and that way has certain conditions. That way clearly says that this is the day of probation and that if we fail in this preparatory state our doom is to be handed over to satan, who has sealed us his, and finally to spend eternity with him. There is no repentance nor turning to God once the door is shut at death.

Alma 34:30. ….seeing that the holy scriptures testify of these things, ye come forth and bring fruit unto repentance.
31. Yea, I would that ye would come forth and harden not your hearts any longer; for behold, now is the time and the day of your salvation; and therefore, if ye will repent and harden not your hearts, immediately shall the great plan of redemption be brought about unto you.
32. For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors.
33. And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many witnesses, therefore, I beseech of you that ye do not procrastinate the day of your repentance until the end; for after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness wherein there can be no labor performed.
34. Ye cannot say, when ye are brought to that awful crisis, that I will repent, that I will return to my God. Nay, ye cannot say this; for that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world.
35. For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.
36. And this I know, because the Lord hath said he dwelleth not in unholy temples, but in the hearts of the righteous doth he dwell; yea, and he has also said that the righteous shall sit down in his kingdom, to go no more out; but their garments should be made white through the blood of the Lamb.

You can call me an apostate for believing the above. It matters not. It seems the scriptures are clear that we can not pay for our own sins. That is not a real condition. Only Jesus can pay. He is the way, the truth and the life. “VERILY, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber”.

Stop promoting “some other way” and attacking those who teach “the only way”. Or, at least, provide anything in the word of God that even hints that there is “some other way”.

You say, “the final arbiter of truth regarding all things of Heaven is the Holy Ghost”. I agree. What you fail to understand is that the scriptures were inspired by that very Holy Ghost. I am almost embarrassed to have to cite the following, but since Latter-day Saints may be reading this discussion, I am so compelled:

1 Timothy 3:16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17. That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

The scriptures clearly teach that your sins have been paid for already. We just need to meet the simple conditions to be washed clean. If we don’t meet those conditions, we are filthy still and will receive the wages of our rebellion. This is the core of Christianity. We should not be shocked or dismayed when Christians dismiss LDSaints claim to being Christian, despite the name of their organization, clip-art logo or numbers of people walking in their broad way. If they reject the foundation, how can they claim the edifice they have built on sand is Christian?

Lastly, how could you interpret my question as some kind of attack on your church to set you off? It was an honest inquiry with no malevolence included. It could have been stated:

Where in the Word of God could Oaks have possibly gotten his anti-Christ idea that men can suffer for their own sins, making the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of non-effect, making Jesus suffering and dying for us all vanity, needles?

But I didn’t. My original question was just a request for a scriptural foundation.

A calm saint would have made a weak attempt by citing Doctrine and Covenants 19. Although a considerable amount of wresting of that section would be required to fit the square peg in the round hole, at least an attempt could have been made. You, rather, jumped to an attack on yours truly. All I was asking was, as in Romans 4:3, “For what saith the scripture?”

You should have responded, “there are no such scriptural basis” and used your time more constructively. You could have used the typing time to study the scriptures in order to be ready to give an answer.

1 Peter 3:15 ....be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

This exchange did not begin with a personal attack and I refuse to include one as this discussion progresses.
