Other Books
We will forgo all but trying to find out what the "other books" are and aren't. If the other books are not the D&C nor the PoGP, than exploration of those teachings that come exclusively from them is not important. So Let's see if there are other explainations of the "other books".
SAYS YOU: "'39 And after [the Bible] had come forth unto them I beheld other books' [note “books” is plural not singular and includes not just the Book of Mormon, but books must also include the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price] And, which came forth by the power of the Lamb, from the Gentiles"
ME: Immediatly you jump to the conclusion that these other books must "include the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price". Not only is there no basis for this supposition, but there is enough evidence that these absolutely can not be those books.
We must first establish what books are the Books that aren't the other books in the teaching. these non-other books are clearly the Book of Mormon and the Bible, which the Book of Mormon identifies as both (2) being a witnesses of two nations, Jews and Nephites.
8. Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of TWO nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the TWO nations shall run together the testimony of the TWO nations shall run together also.
We know that the Book of the Lamb of God was altered by having parts left out of the Gospel through the centuries. But the two books (sticks, if you will) constitute the testimony of the TWO nations.
1 Nephi 13:28 Wherefore, thou seest that after the book hath gone forth through the hands of the great and abominable church, that there are many plain and precious things taken away from the book, which is the book of the Lamb of God.
We also know that the Book of Mormon had a mission to restore those things that were removed from the Gospel.
1 Nephi 13:40 And the angel spake unto me, saying: These last records [Book of Mormon], which thou hast seen among the Gentiles, shall establish the truth of the first [Bible], which are of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, and SHALL MAKE KNOWN THE PLAIN AND PRECIOUS THINGS WHICH HAVE BEEN TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM;
And, of course, the two books bear testimony of each other that they are true.
1 Nephi 13:40 And the angel spake unto me, saying: These last records, which thou hast seen among the Gentiles, shall establish the truth of the first, which are of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, and SHALL MAKE KNOWN THE PLAIN AND PRECIOUS THINGS WHICH HAVE BEEN TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM....
It cannot be denied that The Book of Mormon SHALL MAKE KNOWN THE PLAIN AND PRECIOUS THINGS WHICH HAVE BEEN TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM. You say "the Book of Mormon made known some of the plain and precious things which have been taken away from the Bible, but not all". Yet this verse says the plain and precious parts that were taken out wwere put back in by the Book of Mormon. It does not say "some, but not all". The word of God says "THE PLAIN AND PRECIOUS THINGS WHICH HAVE BEEN TAKEN AWAY". I know why you have to make your unispired alteration because your doctrine does not fit with this citation. But remember, the three witness not only testified of the truth of the Book of Mormon but they also testified as to the truth of the things written therein.
2 Nephi 27:12 Wherefore, at that day when the book shall be delivered unto the man of whom I have spoken, the book shall be hid from the eyes of the world, that the eyes of none shall behold it save it be that three witnesses shall behold it, by the power of God, besides him to whom the book shall be delivered; and THEY SHALL TESTIFY TO THE TRUTH OF THE BOOK and THE THINGS THEREIN.
If the Book of Mormon restored the plain and precious parts that were lost or it didn't. The Book of Mormon teaches that it did. So did the Three Witness. Yet you say that the restoration of the P&P Parts was not complete. Who am I to believe? The testimony of the Three Witnesses or you?
You also believe that the two books contain the fulness of the Gospel.
Doctrine and Covenants 42:12 And again, the elders, priests and teachers of this church shall teach the principles of my gospel, which are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, in the which is the fulness of the gospel.
1 Nephi 13:41
35. For, behold, saith the Lamb: I will manifest myself unto thy seed, that they shall write many things which I shall minister unto them, which shall be plain and precious; and after thy seed shall be destroyed, and dwindle in unbelief, and also the seed of thy brethren, behold, these things shall be hid up, to come forth unto the Gentiles, by the gift and power of the Lamb.
36. And in them shall be written my gospel, saith the Lamb, and my rock and my salvation.
1 Nephi 13:41 And they must come according to the words which shall be established by the mouth of the Lamb; and the words of the Lamb shall be made known in the records of thy seed, as well as in the records of the twelve apostles of the Lamb; wherefore they both shall be established in one; for there is one God and one Shepherd over all the earth.
The fact that there are two books is established over and over in the Book of Mormon. I could share more, but the above citations would be satisfactory to the sincere seeker.
The Other Books
The other books had a specified purpose. They were not to establish extrascripural doctrines never before seen. They were to convince the Gentiles, the seed of Lehi and the Jews that the Bible is true.
1 Nephi 13:39 And after it had come forth unto them I beheld other books, which came forth by the power of the Lamb, from the Gentiles unto them, UNTO THE CONVINCING of the Gentiles and the remnant of the seed of my brethren, and also the Jews who were scattered upon all the face of the earth, THAT THE RECORDS OF THE PROPHETS AND OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES OF THE LAMB ARE TRUE.
To be sure, the two books are so complete that we are to use those two books, which contain the fulness of the Gospel when combined, to confound false doctrine. False doctrine must mean dotrine contrary to the two books but doctrine that goes beyond what is written. You can not concieve a concept such as "the fulness plus more". Once a glass is full, you can not add more. And so, with the two sticks that are one in our hand, we can confound additions and contradictions.
2 Nephi 3:12 Wherefore, the fruit of thy loins shall write; and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together, unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to the knowledge of their fathers in the latter days, and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord.
A book that pretends to be one of the "other books" must be tested to see if those things are true. And what is the simple test?
Does the Book work to convince me that the records of the prophets and the Twelve Apostles are true. If they meet the test, they are the other books which came forth by the power of the Lamb. If it casts doubt on the truthfulness of the Bible, it is not among the other books.
There are thousands of books written that convince us and saints throughout the centuries that the Bible is true. I often read selections found on Christian Classics Ethereal Library.

Of course, one has to test the doctrines of these authors by shining on them the light of the two books, as the Book of Mormon instructs. But to the author they are trying to convince us that the RECORDS OF THE PROPHETS AND OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES OF THE LAMB ARE TRUE! Not only that, but these books and pamphletes were had aong the Gentiles as the United States was settled.
SAYS YOU: "These last records [again it’s plural, more than one record], which thou hast seen among the Gentiles"
ME: You seem to think that the Book of Mormon contains but one record. This assumption is not supported by the Book of Mormon which is often refered to as "records".
Mormon 8:4 Therefore I will write and hide up the records in the earth; and whither I go it mattereth not.
Ether 15:11 And it came to pass that the army of Coriantumr did pitch their tents by the hill Ramah; and it was that same hill where my father Mormon did hide up the records unto the Lord, which were sacred.
Moroni 9:24 And if it so be that they perish, we know that many of our brethren have deserted over unto the Lamanites, and many more will also desert over unto them; wherefore, write somewhat a few things, if thou art spared and I shall perish and not see thee; but I trust that I may see thee soon; for I have sacred records that I would deliver up unto thee.
Moroni 10:2 And I seal up these records, after I have spoken a few words by way of exhortation unto you.
SAYS YOU: "note “books” is plural not singular and includes not just the Book of Mormon, but books must also include the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price"
ME: Shall we apply the test to these publications you insist are other books? Do the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price convince me that the RECORDS OF THE PROPHETS AND OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES OF THE LAMB ARE TRUE?
I insist that they do the opposite. We know that Joseph taught that the Bible was believable only insofar as it is translated correctly, casting doubt on the truthfulness of the RECORDS OF THE PROPHETS AND OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES OF THE LAMB. This is not what the other books do.
The Book of Moses pretends to add plain and precious parts of the Book of Genesis. Those who accept those additions will be convinced that the RECORDS OF THE PROPHETS AND OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES OF THE LAMB are not true.
Matthew 24 serves the same purpose of casting doubt on the RECORDS OF THE PROPHETS AND OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES OF THE LAMB. If one is convinced that this modification is true, one is convinced that RECORDS OF THE PROPHETS AND OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES OF THE LAMB are corrupt and not true.
You mentioned the Joseph Smith "Translation". The above is a part of that and the entire work not only tries to convince us that the RECORDS OF THE PROPHETS AND OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES OF THE LAMB are false, but because it contradicts the Book of Mormon, too, it attempts to convince us that the Book of Mormon itself is nto true.
So, we can see that the Pearl of Great Price is not one of the "Other Books".
You get the picture. One can also go through the Doctrine and Covenants (I reread it with your urging) and show contrdictory doctrine from begining to end. That book also would not convince us that the RECORDS OF THE PROPHETS AND OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES OF THE LAMB are true, thus failing the test the Book of Mormon puts forth. Therefore all of those "unique" doctrines that completed your comment are false when not found PLAINLY in the Book of Mormon. "Hints" don't cut it.
SAYS YOU: "You obviously have never received the witness of the Spirit that Joseph Smith was a modern prophet"
ME: Why would I need this? I have to apply our simple test to his "revelations".
