Why Another Book?

Why do Mormons think that they need another book other than the Bible?

The sad fact is that the group formally called Mormons are the people who need the Book of Mormon most. But as one can see from the responses to this question, it is the Book that they ignore almost as much as they ignore the Bible of which it testifies.

Those who belong to the universal Church of the Lamb, whatever denomination to which they adhere, would read the Book of Mormon and be delighted with the teachings found therein. I am sure they read the Book of Mormon and say to themselves, “I believe that! Why do I need this extra book?” And it is so! The humble followers of Jesus who belong to the Family of God, who are the true Saints of God, would find little that they didn’t know and already believe.

You will find, however, that those who have the Book of Mormon are those who, in the wisdom of God, should read them.

Moroni 10:3 "Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them...."

And who are they that have received these things? Who are they that carry the Book of Mormon when they meet? It is those who are formally named Mormons. It is THEY who must be taught the basics of true Christianity. But, alas, they reject those truths that they were supposed to, by the grace of God, love and respect! They trade the simple but key doctrine found in the Book of Mormon for the doctrines of men, declaring that, next to the Living Oracles, those truths mean nothing to them.

Thus, the Book that was supposed to give them knowledge of Salvation, has turned to their condemnation.

Brother Kimmons askes "That said…why do we think that we need additional scripture?" The answer is because God's Children are so easily deceived by false prophets that some of them can be saved only by the plainness of the Book of Mormon, if only they would embrace it.

Kimmons goes on to point out "The Bible tells us that God is not the author of confusion." And yet, his churches leaders, when speaking, may be merely giving their "personal, though well considered, opinion" which may or may not be true. That is the Mother of Confusion that the Book of Mormon alleviates. And yet, despite the clear warning in the Book of Mormon, they proclaim "I, I am the Lord's".

2 Nephi 28:3. For it shall come to pass in that day that the churches which are built up, and not unto the Lord, when the one shall say unto the other: Behold, I, I AM THE LORD'S; and the others shall say: I, I am the Lord's; and THUS SHALL EVERY ONE SAY THAT HATH BUILT UP CHURCHES, AND NOT UNTO THE LORD--

One has to chuckle in the other attempts to lead us to believe that the Book of Mormon is important to the Members of the Church and beyond. They quote scripture that they don't believe! This demands an example or two.

Brother Hickenbotham quotes: "And it shall come to pass, that whoso repenteth and is baptized in my name shall be filled; and if he endureth to the end, behold, him will I hold guiltless before my Father at that day when I shall stand to judge the world. And he that endureth not unto the end, the same is he that is also hewn down and cast into the fire, from whence they can no more return, because of the justice of the Father [ … ] And no unclean thing can enter into his kingdom; therefore nothing entereth into his rest save it be those who have washed their garments in my blood, because of their faith, and the repentance of all their sins, and their faithfulness unto the end"

"hewn down and cast into the fire, from whence they can no more return" LDS do not believe this. See them freak when you teach about being cast into the fire! There are so many "but, but, but" that the whole concept of punishment is transfigured. I challenge you to read the entire conference sermons and note the lack of references to hell.

"him will I hold guiltless" That is without guilt. None. Those who believe in Jesus and are baptized and endure to the end will be guiltless. There are no degrees of guilt in His kingdom. You are without guilt or you are guilty. Those who are guiltless live with him in his kingdom. The guilty are cast out into the fire. One or the other.

"no unclean thing can enter into his kingdom" LDS would disagree. Unrepentant child molesters, even having rejected the testimony of Jesus in the so-called spirit prison, will receive glory in the Kingdom of Heaven!

"hewn down and cast into the fire, from whence they can no more return, because of the justice of the Father" LDS reject the justice of God. They have come up with the idea that it would be unjust that the wicked should be cast out into the fire for eternity despite the unwavering repetition to the teaching throughout the Book of Mormon. More "but, but, but".

"And whoso shall declare more or less than this, and establish it for my doctrine, the same cometh of evil, and is not built upon my rock; but he buildeth upon a sandy foundation, and the gates of hell stand open to receive such when the floods come and the winds beat upon them". The quoted scripture attached to this conclusion specifies exactly what is required and no more. It warns against adding more. Temple ordinances, celestial marriage, priesthood (yes, priesthood) and more have been generously added.

He quotes " "His blood atoneth for the sins of those who have died not knowing the will of God concerning them, or who have ignorantly sinned" (Mosiah 3:11). Yet LDS teach that the ignorant dead have to be baptized, sealed, ordained and a bunch more. The Book of Mormon clearly teaches that they are covered by the atonement.

Again "God can't save unrepentant sinners because of the law of justice (Mosiah 15:27)" But LDS believe that they can, indeed be saved in the Telestial Kingdom.

Again "Exact sacramental prayers are given (Moroni 4 and 5)" Yet, those exact prayers call for wine, which LDS do not obey!

The Book of Mormon is the voice of warning to members of the Church of J____ C_____ of Latter-day Saints. It is wisdom in God that THEY should have it. Yet they have rejected its plain teachings in favor of the contradicting words of Living Oracles.

2 Nephi 28

18. But behold, that great and abominable church, the whore of all the earth, must tumble to the earth, and great must be the fall thereof.

19. For the kingdom of the devil must shake, and they which belong to it must needs be stirred up unto repentance, or the devil will grasp them with his everlasting chains, and they be stirred up to anger, and perish;

20. For behold, at that day shall he rage in the hearts of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good.

21. And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well-
