Hello Ray… glad to see you are well. Still tooting the same old horn trying to discredit the Lords prophets and apostles? Goodness.
You know perfectly well the rock Christ referred to was the revelation of his divine Son-ship given to Peter by Heavenly Father and that upon this rock of revelation is all truth established. Your springboard metaphor is quaint but misses the mark entirely. And presumes that God is suddenly powerless against the steely resolve of man to wickedly usurp his kingdom from Him.
God the Father and his son Christ the Lord appeared to and called Joseph Smith as the prophet of the restoration in the same manner as all prophets before him….personally! This holy visitation was followed by the the Book of Mormon which was translated/revealed by the gift and power of God… not by Joseph’s intellect. You know this. Enemies of the Book of Mormon use your own reasoning to decry it by claiming it was spring-boarded by Joseph Smith. Is this true? Did Joseph flail about in the air making up his ‘golden book’? Did he later dog paddle about making up the D&C? Or was it all as declared, anchored in the revelations from God? How about the apostles he called through revelation and the showing to several of them the plates and even introducing 3 to the angel Moroni himself?
If Joseph Smith was called and continually led by the Savior and his angels, through revelation, to restore the Church of Jesus Christ back to the earth… and continuing revelation was vital in its progression, you have got to acknowledge that the Lord was in control of the whole affair. On occasion even, the Lord told Joseph that if he did not repent and follow the Lords counsel more diligently, that he and his family would be removed out their place. D&C 3:4–16, D&C 93:47–48. This principle continued after Joseph.
“The Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray. It is not in the programme. It is not in the mind of God. If I were to attempt that, the Lord would remove me out of my place, and so He will any other man who attempts to lead the children of men astray from the oracles of God and from their duty. Pres Wilford Woodruff (Sixty-first Semiannual General Conference of the Church)”
Now I have a question for you Ray. At what point did the leaders of the Lords church, all of a sudden, gain this mighty power to wrench control of it away from Him? At what point did they lose their ‘connection?’ Was it simply that Jesus began to be ignored? … Maybe he was no longer interested in leading his church? Tell me when did Christ Almighty lose his connection to his church? Or maybe he’s trying so hard to get his leaders to hear him but they just aren’t interested? You have to springboard to make this conclusion. That Christ is powerless to control the very thing he restored. Who is really the one flailing about in the air? You talk of self-delusion …. can you sense the irony?
If the Book of Mormon is true…. And you know it is… then Christ continues to lead his church now as he did when he commanded Joseph to restore it and no man can wrench control of it from him.
Take it to the Lord and he will tell you if he has lost his power to command his people.
