Translated Correctly

Can any Mormon show me which passages in the Bible have not been "translated correctly"?

That’s easy. All the verses that confound LDS doctrine. Those ones.

The Book of Mormon, on the other hand, says great and wonderful things about the bible that we have.

For example, when Moroni was telling the story of the Jaredites, he did not include the account from the creation of the world to the Tower because The Jews had it. I am supposing that I can find the account had by the Jews in the Masoratic text, which is just like what we have in our modern Bibles. The first part of the Book of Genesis did not need inspired translating:

Ether 1

1. And now I, Moroni, proceed to give an account of those ancient inhabitants who were destroyed by the hand of the Lord upon the face of this north country.
2. And I take mine account from the twenty and four plates which were found by the people of Limhi, which is called the Book of Ether.
3. And as I suppose that the first part of this record, which speaks concerning the creation of the world, and also of Adam, and an account from that time even to the great tower, and whatsoever things transpired among the children of men until that time, is had among the Jews--
4. Therefore I do not write those things which transpired from the days of Adam until that time; but they are had upon the plates; and whoso findeth them, the same will have power that he may get the full account.
5. But behold, I give not the full account, but a part of the account I give, from the tower down until they were destroyed.

LDSaints must believe the Bible as written. One of the main purposes of the Book of Mormon, to cause LDSaints to believe the Bible!

….lay hold upon the gospel of Christ, which shall be set before you, not only in this record [Book of Mormon] but also in the record which shall come unto the Gentiles from the Jews [Bible], which record shall come from the Gentiles unto you.
For behold, this [Book of Mormon] is written for the intent that ye may believe that [Bible]; and if ye believe that ye will believe this also; and if ye believe this ye will know concerning your fathers, and also the marvelous works which were wrought by the power of God among them. (Mormon 7:8–9)

So important is the Bible paired up with the Book of Mormon, that the combination of the two books must be used to confound false doctrine. If the Bible contained false doctrine, that wouldn’t make sense!

2 Nephi 3:12 Wherefore, the fruit of thy loins shall write; and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together, unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to the knowledge of their fathers in the latter days, and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord.

So important and trustworthy was the double combination that the Church of Christ was to teach with those two books, for the two contained the fulness of the Gospel:

Doctrine and Covenants 42:12 And again, the elders, priests and teachers of this church shall teach the principles of my gospel, which are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, in the which is the fulness of the gospel.

But what about the "other Books" used by the LDSaints. Well, the Book of Mormon covers other books, but it can't refer to the Pearl of Great Price or the Doctrine and covenants. The other books were not to add to the two books in one's hand, "unto the convincing of the Gentiles and the remnant of the seed of my brethren, and also the Jews who were scattered upon all the face of the earth, that the records of the prophets and of the twelve apostles [Bible] of the Lamb are true". Those other books make a case that the Bible is not true, that it is translated incorrectly, that the accounts of events between the creation to the tower are very different than that had among the Jews.

1 Nephi 13:39-40 And after it had come forth unto them I beheld other books, which came forth by the power of the Lamb, from the Gentiles unto them, unto the convincing of the Gentiles and the remnant of the seed of my brethren, and also the Jews who were scattered upon all the face of the earth, that the records of the prophets and of the twelve apostles [Bible] of the Lamb are true.
And the angel spake unto me, saying: These last records [Book of Mormon], which thou hast seen among the Gentiles, shall establish the truth of the first, which are of the twelve apostles of the Lamb [Bible], and shall make known the plain and precious things which have been taken away from them; and shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world; and that all men must come unto him, or they cannot be saved.

The Lord uses the Bible and the Book of Mormon as two testimonies, two witnesses of God. Neither one is a false testimony:

I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also. And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and that I speak forth my words according to mine own pleasure. (2 Nephi 29:8-9)

So the Book of Mormon throughout testifies of the truthfulness of the Bible.

The Choice Seer

The Book of Mormon teaches that there will be a "choice Seer" raised up. LDSaints assume that this seer is Joseph Smith. But This choice seer will have two missions in regards to bringing the Gospel to the scattered children of Israel, especially the Lamanites; 1) Bringing the Book of Mormon to them and 2) convincing them that the Bible is the word of God:

But a seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins; and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of thy loins [Book of Mormon]--and not to the bringing forth my word only, saith the Lord, but to the convincing them of my word, which shall have already gone forth among them [Bible].

To go around teaching that the Bible has translation flaws as an article of faith does not go a long way toward convincing anyone that the Bible is true and reliable.

Now, if you are offended that a church would doubt the Bible as translated, I understand. What has me indignant these days seems to be the growing belief among some Quora contributors , when unable to answer scriptural conundrums, will often respond that “we believe the Book of Mormon as far as it is translated correctly” or worse, that next to Living Oracles the two books mean nothing to them. So I would understand if one was offended.

I have a new hobby. I am doing a count of Moroni Statues on temples, new and old. A few have Moroni holding the plates. I saw one with a scroll instead of the plates. Most, it seems, has him with his arm just dangling there! Is this another attempt of the Church to distance itself from the Book of Mormon?
